A relaxed October day
If your whale cruise is running, place it early in the stay and keep the evening simple. For a local day, combine a beach or pier visit with a nearby meal. A K’gari day makes a separate outing rather than an add-on after a cruise.
Allow for the school-holiday overlap
Queensland state-school holidays continue through 5 October 2026. Check your own school and travel dates, then compare the final accommodation total and cancellation terms. The official calendar has the current dates.
Keep the late-month holiday worthwhile
Choose other activities you would enjoy if the preferred boat has finished or a sailing changes. The one-day guide includes a local option. Sea conditions and the whales you encounter still vary.
Spring holiday details for 2026
Hervey Bay Library closes on Monday 5 October for the public holiday. Check the dated calendar for activities earlier in the holiday break.
WetSide works affect October: Council schedules closure of the main arena from 6 October to mid-November, with Aqua Ninja and paid waterslides continuing on weekends. TotSide is separately listed as closed for repairs. Check Council’s current notice before setting out.
